Fennel is allelopathic to most garden plants, inhibiting growth, causing to bolt, or actually killing many plants.[citation needed] When growing together a higher ratio of fennel to dill provides the highest profit. Dill has a stabilizing effect on the fennel seed. Because it attracts syrphidae it reduces aphids through predation.
